The agent of Liverpool FC defender Martin Skrtel confirms the Slovakian is set to sign a new contract at Anfield, rejecting an offer by Inter Milan.
Speaking to Italian website FCInterNews, Karol Csonto, the agent of Liverpool FC defender Martin Skrtel has confirmed that the Slovakian is set to sign new deal at the club despite interest from Inter Milan.
Speaking to the website, Karol Csonto said: a I will confess that the links between Inter and Skrtel were not just rumours.”
a There was very real interest from Inter towards Martin, but then the matter did not go forward. There was definitely contact.
a The player considered his future and at the end of the day decided to stay at Liverpool FC. At this stage, I can say a contract renewal is probable.”
Skrtel was embroiled in contract stand off with Liverpool FC with only a year left on his having recently rejected a contract offer citing an a unacceptablea clause that expected him to play a certain number of games for full payment.
It now appears that his unhappiness over the clause is a thing of the past. He was quoted by Slovakian newspaper Aktualne explaining why he has rejected the offer:a Ita s unacceptable for me. I think that such contracts offered to players who are much older than me or the player who had some health problems. And I dona t feel so old that I could sign such an agreement.a
Liverpool FC have come under scrutiny for their contract policy with Steven Gerrard when announcing his exit saying he would have signed a new contract if it was offered to him in the summer.
Jordan Henderson contract situation also threatened to be going wrong briefly which led captain Gerrard to come out in the press and say that he is worried about the way Hendersona s contract is being allowed to run down with only a year left.
Since then, Liverpool FC have gone onto sign Jordan Henderson, Jordan Ibe, Daniel Sturridge, Andre Wisdom, Philipe Coutinho on long term contracts and have tied up Kolo Toure and Jon Flannagan on short term deals.
With his agent coming out and confirming that Skrtel could sign a new deal at Liverpool FC, contrary to the perceived opinions, Liverpool FC have tied down seven off the nine players they were hoping to retain, with Steven Gerrard and soon to be sold Raheem Sterling the only ones that got away.
