Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho feels that his side were the better team following the 1-0 loss to Arsenal FC in the Community Shield. The game also marked Jose Mourinho’s first loss to Arsene Wenger, bringing an end to his 13-match unbeaten run.

An Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stunner helped Arsenal FC beat Chelsea FC as Petr Cech made his competitive debut against his former side Chelsea FC after having switched allegiances from Stamford Bridge. Arsenal FC took the lead in the 24th minute, when Chamberlain beat Azpilicueta with his foot-work before unleashing a left-footed strike into the top corner with Courtois well and truly beaten.

After the match, Arsene Wenger snubbed a possible hand-shake from Jose Mourinho, who was standing near the stairs and was congratulating the Arsenal FC players over their well-fought victory.

Mourinho feels Arsenal FC left their philosophy in the dressing room

Mourinho felt that the better team on the day lost the match and insisted that the Gunners gave up their philosophy to secure the win. He also didn’t hesitate to blame the pitch, which according to him was a ‘disaster’. Speaking in the post-match press conference, as reported by the club’s official website, he said:

“For me it depends on the perspective. Normally you [the media] like to say a team that is defensive and defends very well doesna t deserve to win.

“But I also have my opinion, different from your opinion. My opinion is the team that defends very well, that leaves their philosophy in the dressing room, changes their attitude, plays all the second half with nine players in front of the box, doesna t concede and scores one goal, from that perspective they deserve to win.

.

“This is football. This is very good tactical organisation. Congratulations to them.”

The 52-year-old also commented on the lack of match fitness of some of his players, as players including loan signing Radamel Falcao have started training with the squad only last week. He added:

“I expected the lack of sharpness, ita s normal. Some players like Falcao started a week ago. The others have had two weeks and half of this week. The pitch was a disaster, so slow, the weather didna t help too but it was the same for both teams so no excuses. I know Arsenal also like a good, fast pitch.

“One team played counter-attack football well. One team played with initiative well but without the sharpness you need to be more aggressive with the ball. The team tactically tried everything.”
