Jamie Carragher Hails Raheem Sterling Impact On Manchester City Style Of Play

Former Liverpool FC defender Jamie Carragher has hailed the impact of Raheem Sterling on Manchester City and said that the youngster’s pace will help City avoid playing lethargically this season.

Raheem Sterling is a new signing at Etihad, having completed his 49m GBP move from Liverpool FC earlier this summer.

The winger was center of a transfer tussle that threatens to cast a long shadow over his career. One man who was very vocal about Sterling and his agent’s behaviour at Liverpool FC was the former Reds vice-captain Jamie Carragher.

However, Carragher has kept his opinions about Sterling’s behavior at Liverpool FC to the side and has praised the impact the youngster is having on City’s play.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher was quoted saying by the Daily Mail:

“Sometimes when we watch Manchester City we think it’s too pedestrian, too slow, too lethargic,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

“I think he (Sterling) did well. What he does is he gives you that penetration, that pace. He seemed to have a good connection with [Aleksandar] Kolarov. That happens with both goals.”

“He’s not just a player who stands out wide and waits for the ball. That’s what they’ve bought – that pace, that penetration.”

Sterling started for Manchester City on the left side of midfield and was a constant threat as the Citizens strolled to a comfortable 3-0 win in their opening fixture.

There were suggestions, when he first made the move from Liverpool FC, that Sterling will not see much game time at the Etihad. However, Pellegrini chose to start the youngster who almost scored for City only for West Brom ‘keeper to pull off a one on one save against the English international.
