Hiddink believes there is no lack of confidence or ambition among his Chelsea FC players after Old Trafford draw

Chelsea FC interim manager Guus Hiddink saw positives in his side’s 0-0 draw away to Manchester United on Monday as he insisted that there was no lack of confidence and ambition in the Blues’ first team.

The draw at Old Trafford was a third consecutive Premier League game without a defeat for Chelsea FC — the first time the Blues have put together such a run this season. Caretaker manager Guus Hiddink outlined some lofty ambitions for the Blues prior to the clash against Manchester United, and insisted after the game that the players shared his confidence and ambition for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea’s win over Sunderland was witnessed by a hostile home crowd who took aim at some of the players for their perceived role in the sacking of manager Jos Mourinho. Hiddink insisted that it is now up to the team to win the fans back on their side with their performances.

Hiddink rues lack of striking options

Speaking after the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Monday, Hiddink bemoaned his lack of options up front but praised the work of Belgian Eden Hazard who looked sharp in a false 9 role despite failing to provide the finishing touch yet again.

The Dutchman is quoted by the club’s official website as saying: “We didna t have full power to hurt Man U – as everyone knows we have some problems in the striker position due to suspension and injuries so we had to think how to solve that problem.

“Hazard has done it before and he is capable of doing it because hea s a very versatile player. Ia m pleased because we had some good opportunities in the second half. Man U pressed although they didna t create a lot of chances.”

No lack of confidence and ambition among Chelsea FC players

The Blues currently lie 14th in the Premier League table, 15 points off the Champions League places, but manager Guus Hiddink has insisted that his players have the stomach to salvage something from the remainder of the season.

“The players have experienced a very bad half year. They have to lift it up and that’s what we have talked about in the locker room. Everyone is convinced we couldn’t go on on the same path and we have shown that in the last three games.

“Ita s normal to see the character and desire of the players but they have shown a lot ambition in the last three games. Thata s what we are asking and automatically when everyone is on board hopefully then we can use the quality of the players as well.

“I would have been more worried if there was a lack of confidence or ambition but I dona t see that at the moment in this team.”
