Former Liverpool FC midfielder Gary McAllister could be offered a role on Brendan Rodgers coaching staff, according to reports on Wednesday night and Liverpool fans are delighted with the fan favorite potentially joining the club, again.

Brendan Rodgers agreed to the dismissal of his long-serving assistant Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh during an end-of-season performance review with Liverpool FC owners, replacing them with U-16 coach Pepijn Ljinders and England U-19 coach Sean Oa Driscoll.

It was reported earlier that the manager is looking to add another coach to the Reds backroom staff, mostly an ex-player.

And yesterday, reports emerged that Liverpool FC were in talks with club legend Gary McAllister over the role. The former midfielder, who was instrumental in Liverpoola s treble winning season of 2001, and who won the league with Eric Cantona and Leeds, also who is credited by Steven Gerrard himself of giving him invaluable mental tips that helped him improve as a player could prove to be an invaluable addition to the young Liverpool FC squad if his history is anything to go by.

Gerrard, 20 back then, said that he would always try to be among the first to get to the team bus, “so I could sit next to McAllister, absorbing advice”.

Liverpool FC fans have been delighted by the news of the former cult hero returning to the club as evident in the tweets below.

Gary Mac would be a great appointment. Played the game the right way, loves the club, lots of experience. Hope he gets the job. #LFC

Gary Mac is an #LFC . legend for what he did in 2000/2001. Should be a welcome addition to #Rodgers‘s backroom staff if appointed.

‘Gary Macca, Gary Gary Macca’ – if he does get an #LFC coaching job he’ll have his name sung more than the manager

a Kop Magazine (@TheKopMagazine) July 8, 2015

If Gary Mac does join, I hope he can instill some of his set-piece knowledge onto the side. His skills helped us tremendously in 2001.
