Ex-Assistant Manager Ray Wilkins Was Hoping Chelsea FC Would Avoid PSG In Champions League Round Of 16

Chelsea FC might have managed to top their group in the champions League, but former player and assistant manager Ray Wilkins was hoping that PSG was the one team the Blues would not draw for the Round of 16.

As fate has it though, the Blues have managed to draw the French champions, for a third season in a row, in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

While Chelsea FC negotiated their way through the fixture a couple of seasons back. PSG came out as the victors last time round and, with the current form of the Premier League champions, it seems a really difficult fixture for them.

a That was the only one I didna t want them to get. Chelsea were playing wonderfully well last season, PSG have already won the French league a they must be 17 points clear now and ita s not even Christmas,” Wilkins was quoted saying in the Daily Mirror.

a So that was the only team out of that batch of teams they could have got that I didna t want them to get. Last year, I would have taken it all day long because Chelsea were playing wonderfully well but this year I didna t want that at all,” he continued. “They have got a big, big problem now.a

Thiago Silva wants to go back to San Siro this time

No, the PSG captain does not want a move back to his former club AC Milan. However, he did express his desire to go back to his old stomping ground, the San Siro, where the Champions League final will be held in 2016. For this, PSG would have to first defeat Chelsea FC.

a Like last season, we hope to qualify. It will be difficult but if we want to win the Champions League, we have to win against all teams,” said Silva. a I think it will be even harder than last season.

“We know the Chelsea players, and we know they will give everything to get to the knockout stage. But we hope to celebrate qualification.a
