English Clubs On Alert As Barcelona Could Let Attacker Leave in Summer

Barcelona attacker Pedro Rodriguez’s time at Catalunya could come to an end in the summer as the club are willing to let him leave.

According to AS, a bid between a 25m and a 30m could be enough to convince Barcelona to part ways with the attacker, although that fee seems a bit high for someone who has just over a year remaining on his contract.

With Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar ahead of him, it’s likely that Pedro will move to pastures new as he isn’t a regular starter for Barcelona like he was a few years ago under Pep Guardiola. The 27-year old has completed just four games for the Blaugrana[90 minutes] this season and even during Suarez’s absence due to a ban, he struggled to establish himself as youngsters like Munir El Haddadi played ahead of him. That started rumours that he could be on his way out despite Barcelona having a transfer embargo.

According to reports, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are being linked with him. However, with Chelsea already having good players at their disposal, you would imagine that Pedro would prefer a move to Manchester United or Arsenal where he will have a more realistic chance of making it into the first team.

At 27, Pedro still has a lot of football in him and a fresh challenge would suit him well as his form has dipped a bit in the last few seasons. He has won everything there is in club football at Barcelona and had his personal best season in the 2009 season where he scored 23 times in 52 appearances and helped Barcelona do the League and Cup double. Pedro has also lifted the World Cup and European Cup with Spain in 2010 and 2012 respectively. He is predominantly a right sided player but can be deployed at the left side as well as he is very versatile. He has 97 goals in 303 appearances for the club since breaking into the side in 2008.

Pedro has handed a transfer request in October last year as he wasn’t sure about his future at Barcelona. Prior to the World Cup, he had struggled under then Barcelona manager Tata Martino and had commented on the transfer speculation, “I don’t know what’s going to happen yet, I don’t know anything.

“I’m calm though, I’m at the World Cup and that’s all that matters right now. When a decision has to be made, I’ll speak with the club and we’ll see what happens,” he had said.
