Drogba could return to Stamford Bridge for the second time; agent confirms Chelsea FC have made offer for the club legend

The former Ivory Coast international was seen seated next to new Chelsea FC interim manager Guus Hiddink and owner Roman Abramovich during the Blues’ 3-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday, inviting speculation about a possible return to the club

Didier Drogba could be on his way back to Stamford Bridge for the second time — this time potentially in a non-playing role, most likely as an assistant to newly appointed temporary manager Guus Hiddink.

The 37-year-old was in attendance at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as Chelsea FC beat Sunderland 3-1 in one of their better performances this season, and his presence raised questions about a potential return to the club. Drogba’s agent has now confirmed that that is indeed what Roman Abramovich is trying to do.

Chelsea FC have opened talks with Drogba, says agent

The Ivorian is contracted to MLS side Montreal Impact where he spent an extremely successful first season, but is currently free as it is off-season in the United States. According to a report in the London Evening Standard . , Drogba’s agent Thierno Seydi has confirmed that his client has held talks with Chelsea FC, although it is not specified what his role would be.

The report also states that the Blues would have to pay compensation to Montreal, but have enough time to do so as the Canadian side do not play their next game till the 6th of March. With Hiddink himself confirming that he would like Drogba to be part of his back-room staff, a deal for the striker seems likely.

Drogba return could be huge for Chelsea FC

Brining in Didier Drogba would be an extremely intelligent move from Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea FC board, and although there is definitely an element of currying favour with the Stamford Bridge faithful after the hugely unpopular decision of sacking Jos Mourinho, the Ivorian could have a huge impact at the club.

Not only would he be of immense help to the under-fire Diego Costa, but he could also act as an intermediary between the manager and the first-team squad. His popularity and the respect he commands in the dressing room will mean that his presence will influence players, and that can only be a positive for Chelsea FC as they attempt to salvage something from a disastrous season.
