Diego Costa, David Silva, Pedro And Other Spaniards Who Can Play A Key Role In Premier League Title Race

Following Chelsea FC’s acquisition of Pedro from FC Barcelona, we look at five Spaniards who could play a key role in the title race in the Premier League.

Chelsea FC secured the signature of FC Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez earlier this week. It was reported by the Telegraph that Manchester United . wanted to sign the Spanish winger, but the club failed to agree a fee with FC Barcelona, allowing Chelsea FC to swoop in.

Pedro became the fourth Spanish player in the Chelsea FC squad as the Spaniards continue to swap Spain for England.

And befittingly, we look at Pedro as our first candidate who could have a significant impact on the title race in England alongside four other Spaniards.

1 – Pedro

Chelsea FC signed the Spaniard in a 21.5m GBP deal from FC Barcelona after a stuttering start to the new season, having collected just a solitary point from their opening two game.

Pedro has made a reputation of himself as a hardworking and a goal scoring player and won an incredible 20 trophies with FC Barcelona during his time at the club. He scored a career high 15 league goals in 2013/14, but, found his chances restricted at the club once Luis Suarez was signed and returned from suspension in 2014/15.

Pedro will add pace and goal to the Chelsea FC front three.

2 – Diego Costa

Diego Costa is a warrior. There is no other apt term to describe the highly energetic forward. His relentless pressing ensures that Chelsea’s defence begins from up front. Costa had an injury hit first season, yet, managed to score 20 goals in the league, playing a key role in the run in to the league title victory.

Costa is expected to once again play the same role for Chelsea FC if they are to have a real shot at retaining the title, with only back up being Loic Remy and the out of form Radamel Falcao. His goals will ensure that Chelsea continue to put teams to sword.

3 – David Silva

The best thing about the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Liverpool FC has been that Silva has been able to play centrally more often.

Often played out wide, Silva can now use his pin point passing and creativity to open up defences for Kun Aguero. Silva has started the season in great form, scoring one and assisting three goals. He is among a few Manchester City player that escaped criticism following a disappointing 2014-15 season by the Citizens and looks to continue his form in the new season.

Be rest assured, as he moves into the prime of his career and is given a much more central role at City, Silva is all set to play a key role as Manchester City look to regain their title as champions from couple of seasons ago.

4 – David De Gea

Manchester United may not be a front runner for the league title like Chelsea or City are, but, they still remain dangerous as ever.

They certainly have a much more balanced side with the addition of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin, but the David de Gea transfer saga has threatened to derail the stability.

However, manager van Gaal was quoted saying recently that the club will not sell the Spaniard to Real Madrid, and should De Gea stay, he can go onto play a key role in the title race, whether it is in favor of Manchester United or against them as he can end up being a distraction throughout the season if he does not accept his transfer to Real Madrid will not go ahead.

5 – Santi Cazorla

Santi Cazorla is a very interesting player. Standing at just 168cm, Cazorla is one of the smallest player in the league. However, that did not stop him from grabbing an impressive 11 assists and 7 goals in the Premier League last season. Cazorla was deployed in a deep position towards the end of last season, and he excelled there.

Should Arsenal mount a serious title challenge, Cazorla will certainly play a key role again, as he did in their third place finish last season.
