Chelsea’s Departing Stalwart Confident The Club Will Continue To Grow

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is close to an exit after spending more than 10 years at the club and he hopes that the upcoming generation of Chelsea players can keep winning trophies just like the ones in the last decade.

The Czech Republic international moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2004 and was the first of many signings made by Jose Mourinho in a bid to challenge for the title. Signed for a 13m from French club Rennes, Cech not only won the League with Chelsea, but also established himself as one of the best keepers in the League.

This season, however, the 32-year old has been displaced by Belgian Thibaut Courtois as the number one in goal and as a result, Cech will most likely leave in the summer. He has been part of the club along with the likes if John Terry, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard for a long time, and after Lampard’s departure at the end of last season, he could be the next big name to depart from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are set to lift their first title since 2010, and it will be Cech’s fourth League title with the club. He said, a The last title we won was back in 2010, so it has been a long time.

a This one is hopefully the start of a new era, another generation of players, because there is only me, JT and Didier left from the team who have been here for the last decade.

a You can say this is a new Chelsea generation. Hopefully we will win the title on Sunday and this team will continue to grow.a

Cech’s departure will sadden some of the fans as they know he is still very much capable of being a number one goalkeeper. However, Courtois’ form has been such good, that it is impossible to drop him. Despite suffering a head injury in 2006, Cech came back strong and put in impressive displays. He will leave the club having won three league titles, four FA Cups, two League cups, two Charity Shields, a Champions League and a Europa League trophy. He has also won the Premier League golden glove award on three occasions; 2004a 05, 2009a 10 and 2013a 14 season and has been named in the PFA Team of the Year twice.
