The 20-year-old French defender, who has made immense progress over the course of the past year in particular, declares he will be ready to fill in anywhere required in the Chelsea FC team.
Kurt Zouma had a breakthrough 2014-2015 season with Chelsea FC, keeping Gary Cahill out of the starting line-up for a period, including games against the likes of Manchester City in the league and Liverpool FC in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final tie at Stamford Bridge.
The former St. Etienne man also played a few games in midfield, including the Capital One Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, as well as the crunch tie at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United, and has declared he is again willing to occupy any position on the pitch required of him.
Zouma happy to fill in anywhere for Chelsea FC
The France U21 international found himself replacing C sar Azpilicueta at left-back when Chelsea FC took on La Liga giants Barcelona in their pre-season friendly in Washington, but insisted he had no qualms about it.
Speaking to England’s The Sun (via ESPN FC), Zouma said: “It is a new position for me. I played there only one time when I was at Vaulx-En-Velin, but I have to help the team. The boss put me at left-back and it was not a problem. I just wanted to play and enjoy the game. The most important thing was that we win and I could help the team.”
The defender also expressed his desire to stay at the club and continue to improve as a player. “I learn a lot and I hope I will be at Chelsea for a long time,” said the 20-year-old.
Chelsea FC could benefit greatly from Zouma’s versatility
Given the Blues currently have only five defenders for four positions, Kurt Zouma’s versatility could be priceless to manager Jos Mourinho. The Frenchman has already played as a right-back, but could also do a job at left-back considering the player behind Eden Hazard on that flank is not required to contribute as much to the attack as his counter-part on the right.
Apart from his versatility, his attitude is probably what makes him such a popular option with Mourinho. The Chelsea FC youngster is hard-working, down to earth, extremely willing to contribute in any capacity, and can generally be relied upon to fulfill certain tactical roles to a high standard.
Even if the Blues are unable to sign John Stones from Everton, Chelsea FC have a young defender in Zouma who could develop into one of the best defenders in the world under the guidance of Mourinho and captain John Terry.
