Chelsea FC have not been preforming well this season, and top marksman Diego Costa seems to be facing the brunt for this, as he faces the axe in the January transfer window.
Chelsea FC’s catastrophic start to the season seems to have been detrimental for the players who have moved to the West London club from La Liga.
.
“Jose Mourinho has announced a clearing-out operation that sees players like Diego Costa, Falcao and Pedro [leaving the club],” writes Juajo Martin on Spanish portal Don Balon.
However, Diego Costa, who arrived from Atletico Madrid last season, has also been in poor form this season, managing just two goals in the Premier League. He has instead been a nuisance up front, often getting into confrontations with the opponent players.
This has been detrimental for Chelsea FC this season, as they have looked rather dry up front, and have lacked inspiration from the midfield (with the sole exception of Willian).
Other ex-La Liga players also facing the axe
A lot was expected from the former FC Barcelona wingman, as he made his A?19.3 million move to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea FC were already struggling at the start of the season. However, due to poor performances, manager Jose Mourinho is already said to be looking for a replacement for Pedro, according to reports from Spain.
“If Pedro Rodriguez is very sorry he left Barcelona to join Chelsea, the feeling is mutual in the London club, where they are also upset to have paid 30 million for his transfer,” writes Martin.
Falcao, who is on loan from AS Monaco, has been a catastrophic failure at Chelsea FC now, managing to score just one Premier League goal this season. Chelsea FC are said to be willing to bring his loan deal to a premature end in January, while they look to sign a new striker.
Mourinho conducting a complete overhaul
Unlike with the previous managers at the club, owner Roman Abramovich seems to have placed his faith in manager Jose Mourinho, in spite of the terrible start to the season that has now extended into mid-season.
The Portuguese manager is expected to oversee a complete overhaul of his squad — partially in the January transfer window, and mainly in the Summer 2016 transfer window. Although reports say that most of the Spanish (or ex-La Liga) players would be facing the axe, two Chelsea FC players who are not going to be sold are midfielder Cesc Fabregas and full-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
While Azpilicueta has been consistent both at the left-back and the right-back positions, Fabregas has not been as good as he was last season, resulting in the Portuguese dropping him from the starting XI quite often. In spite of the poor form however, Mourinho is said to be unwilling to sell Fabregas, and seems to have faith in the former Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona man.
