In the aftermath of a 3-1 home loss to Southampton, struggling Premier League holders Chelsea FC have issued a statement to confirm their faith in under-fire manager Jose Mourinho.
The reigning Champions have suffered their worst start to a league campaign since 1978-79, having amassed a meager 8 points from 8 games. The Blues had managed only four points from eight games in 1978-79 and went on to be relegated that season.
Jose Mourinho had only ever lost one Premier League home game before this season, but has already lost twice at the Stamford Bridge this season. Chelsea FC are currently 16th in the table and are behind the three promoted sides from last term.
In light of Mourinho’s 7-minute rant after the loss to Southampton, Chelsea FC have released a statement, highlighting that the Portuguese has their backing, but the team’s fortunes must soon be overturned. The statement also focuses on the squad at Mourinho’s disposal, insisting that the club believes that the squad is capable of performing better than what has been the case so far.
Here’s the statement issued by Chelsea FC .
The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.
As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it.
