. Chelsea FC midfielder Cesc Fabregas became the player with the maximum assists ever for Spain during last night’s 4-0 win over Luxembourg. Santi Cazorla and Paco Alcacer both scored braces to help Spain qualify for the Euro 2016.
The former FC Barcelona midfielder has faced criticism for his club’s poor start to the season, which has seen them rack up only 8 points from 8 league games. The 28-year-old, however, put aside his struggles with the Blues and continued with his assists.
The record was previously held by FC Barcelona legend Xavi, who had 27 assists in 133 games. Fabregas managed to overtake his former teammate in only 99 appearances, and with age on his side he can easily manage another 10 or 15 by the time he hangs up his boots.
Chelsea FC fans must be hoping that the Spaniard can bag a couple of assists for his club also, with the 28-year-old being one of the many players, who have failed to replicate last season’s form this year.
CONGRATULATIONS to @cesc4official who just passes Xavi HernA?ndez for most assist in Spanish national team history.
