Carragher Backs ‘Winner’ Rafa Benitez To Bring Trophies To Real Madrid

Jamie Carragher has backed his former Liverpool FC manager Rafa Ben tez to succeed at Real Madrid, claiming “he always wins titles”.

Benitez and Carragher spend six years together at Liverpool FC, winning a Champions League an reaching another final while coming second in the league in 2008-09 and also winning an FA Cup.

With the newly-appointed Real Madrid boss Ben tez under huge pressure to bring trophies to the Bernabeu, Jamie Carragher has backed his former boss to flourish.

“At every club he has been at he has won title,” Carragher told AS .

“At Napoli he won the Super Cup and Italian Cup, at Liverpool the Champions League. I think he won a couple of trophies at Inter.”

“He always wins titles but at Madrid the pressure is huge and he arrives just after Bar a has won the treble.”

“Now Madrid need to respond with trophies and Ben tez is a coach who always wins something.”

Carragher was joined by Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos in backing the new manager. And while Roberto Carlos did not agree with the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, he has no doubt Benitez will bring success to his former side:

“I didn’t agree with Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, just like I didn’t agree when Vicente del Bosque and Jupp Heynckes were sacked back in the day,” the Brazilian told Marca. “You have to let coaches do their work, but it’s Florentino’s decision; he’s in charge.”

“Benitez is in a fine period of his career and can do very well at Real Madrid. He’s a good choice; he’s a good coach and he knows the club inside out. I wish him the best: it’s not an easy job.”

“The culture is based on winning all the time and if you go a while without winning a trophy, there’s a big crisis.”

“That’s not just the case at Real Madrid, though: it’s the same at Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester United and City.”

With former players already in the press, it clearly indicates that Rafael Benitez is under pressure to deliver at Real Madrid. And whilst his track record speaks for itself, the Spanish manager has some task on his hands.
