Legendary Brazilian right-back Cafu has heaped praise on injured Liverpool FC full-back Jon Flanagan and has even tipped the English international for greatness.

The two-time World Cup winner impressed for Liverpool FC during the 2013-14 season, when the Reds came close to winning the title, but eventually lost to Manchester City.

The 22-year-old has been injured since the end of that season and recurrent knee injuries have prevented him from featuring for the Anfield side. Flanagan is expected to return to the first-team by the end of this year, but keeping in mind his recent injury concerns, Liverpool FC will be wise not to risk the defender and gradually ease him back into the first team.

Flanagan had made 42 appearances for the Reds before injury problems took a toll on the youngster, who has been missing from action for close to 15 months.

He has everything required to be one of the best full-backs in the world — Cafu on Flanagan

Speaking in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine, as quoted by Liverpool FC’s official website, Cafu said:

a I paid him a visit not long ago.

a We had lunch and took some pictures together. He is very fit and has everything required to be one of the best full-backs in the world.”

I would have loved to play for Liverpool, Manchester United or Chelsea .

The former AC Milan and Roma defender is the highest capped Brazilian of all-time and picked out former English midfielders Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard as English internationals he liked the most.

a The English players that I like the most are those from my generation. I am a big fan of Frank Lampard a his movement is so elegant. Steven Gerrard is also a great example of character, for me.a

Cafu, who till date remains the only player to feature in three World Cup finals, expressed his regret at never playing in the Premier League and even named the clubs, who he would have loved to have played for.

a It would have been great to play in England.

a I would have loved to play for Liverpool, Manchester United or Chelsea.a
