Arsenal FC’s defender Carl Jenkinson who is currently on-loan with West Ham had to put on the goalkeeper’s gloves as the Hammers suffered a 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

West Ham had already made their three substitutions when Adrian was sent off in the 90th minute for a second bookable offence. Adrian went up for a corner and was booked for a high boot as he attempted to pump the ball back into the 6 yard box. The sending off forced Slaven Bilic to field one of his outfield players in the goal and he selected the right-back to put on the gloves.

The 23-year-old assumed his position between the posts for the final minutes of the game but was not required to do much in the closing stages as West Ham went forward in the search of an equalizer.

Speaking in the post-match interview, the English international commented on the red card and his short experience between the posts.

“I thought the red card was a bit harsh, it was a high foot but I am sure it was accidental.”

“I ended up in goal but fortunately I didn’t have too much to do.”

Leicester City scored twice before half-time as new signings Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez found the back of the net. Dimitri Payet, who recently joined West Ham United from Marseille, pulled one back for the Hammers. However, Slaven Bilic’s side could not find an equalizer as he lost his first home game of the season following their impressive victory against Arsenal FC in the opening fixture of the season.

Arsenal FC and West Ham fans took to Twitter to reflect on Jenkinson keeping a clean sheet, something the Gunners’ new Petr Cech has failed to do so far this season.
