Tim Sherwood desires to create history at Aston Villa by winning the FA Cup final against an Arsenal side, who he thinks play the best football in the Premier League.

Aston Villa will probably play their most important game of the season on Saturday as they prepare to face Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley. Tim Sherwood is relishing the chance to make history at the club by beating Arsenal, who thinks are the favourites, with an Aston Villa side, who he considers as the underdogs.

Sherwood believes in his players to perform in this one-off game. The former Tottenham boss believes that in games like these, form makes no difference and his side will handle the pressure and put up a performance similar to the one in the semi-final victory over Liverpool.

“It feels good to be involved this weekend,a he said. “We are excited at the prospect. We know it’s a big occasion. To be involved in an FA Cup final is a fantastic achievement for the football club.

“It’s a one-off game. Form goes out of the window.

“Everyone has a chance to make a name for themselves. The club haven’t won a trophy for a long time so it’s an opportunity for everyone to write the history books again.

“I thoroughly believe we will get a performance like the one we put in against Liverpool. You have to believe that.

“Hopefully we can nullify Arsenal’s threats and take the game to them. That’s what we intend to do.

“Arsenal are the favourites. They’ve been there and done it before. They are the holders of the trophy. It will be very difficult for us.

“But we’re not going there to make the numbers up. We aim to give them a good game.

“I know what the boys are capable of and they have proved that in this FA Cup run.

“On the big occasions they have produced the goods. They need to do it one more time.

“I think we’ve been underdogs all season. The games – when pressure has been on us – we’ve actually produced – away at Tottenham, at Wembley against Liverpool in the semi-final, that huge game we had in the FA Cup against West Brom.a

Sherwood spoke about his admiration for the opposition. He said that he believes Arsenal are best football team in the league and they have individual players who can win a game by themselves.

He continued: “I think they’re probably the best football team in the league. If you let them play, they can hurt you.

“They have players who can win a game by themselves. They are a top, top football team.

“They have proved that in the Premier League over many years. They are obviously the holders of the competition too.

“Arsene Wenger believes in his philosophy and he doesn’t sway from that. He sticks to his beliefs. I know exactly how Arsenal will play. I admire him for sticking to his guns.

“They have an opportunity to win another trophy. We have to make sure we stop them.”
