Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger believes it will be difficult for his side to catch league leaders Chelsea FC, although he rejected notions of his team slipping up at crucial stages.
Arsenal suffered a disappointing loss against Stoke City on Saturday as their poor record at the Britannia Stadium continued. That loss meant the Gunners dropped down to third in the league table as both Chelsea and Liverpool won their respective matches. The Merseyside club have a better goal difference than Arsenal and their win against Southampton lifted them up to second in the table. Arsene Wengerai??i??s men can drop further down the table if Manchester City wins their two matches at hand.
Arsenal have won just three of their last eight matches in all competitions and this has put them on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League, along with providing a big blow to their title ambition. With 10 matches remaining and Chelsea having a four-point lead over Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has accepted that his side will find it hard to claw back the difference.
“We cannot say it’s easy.
“It is difficult, but I expected them to win at Fulham.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Arsenal will now face Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton in their next four league matches, along with their FA Cup and Champions League fixture against Everton and Bayern Munich respectively. Arsenal in general have failed to deliver against big teams in the league this season, although Wenger disagrees with this notion. The Frenchman on the contrary believes that this is an opinion which has been developed without any facts backing it.
“I would say look at our results at the crucial point in the season and you would be surprised.
“Somebody says something that is not checked and everyone repeats it and it becomes an opinion, even if the facts don’t show it.
“Our end of season has always been very strong.” ai??i?? Wenger added.
Their current predicaments in the league mean their next fixture against Everton in the FA Cup has added importance. While their Champions League dreams are hanging by thread, there is still a slim possibility of them turning it around in the league when they face Chelsea and Manchester City later this month. But considering their record against the top sides in the past few season, they will have pull out something special in order end their trophy drought.
