FC Barcelona has been on a trail of Chelsea FC defender David Luiz for long and now, reportedly, both teams have agreed a deal worth A?32m.
English newspapers Daily Star and Express has run a front page story today, claiming that the Bluesai??i?? defender David Luiz will join Barcelona following this summer’s World Cup after agreeing terms on a A?32m switch to the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are tracking the Chelsea defender since last summer window when they made initial offer of A?25m but the Bluesai??i?? management rejected the said offer. However, considering the Daily Star and Expresai??i?? reports, the player is looking set to join Camp Nou side this summer.
With captain Carles Puyol retiring, Barca are in immediate need of a quality defender and Sporting Director Andoni Zubizaretta considers Luiz as the perfect candidate to replace the club legend. The defensive troubles of Barca are well known and apart from Luiz, Barca management is also expected to sign another defender.
Gerard Pique, the regular partner of Puyol in the heart of the defence is not at his usual best during the ongoing season and he is also being troubled by his long term back injuries. Make-shift defender Javier Mascherano is also not able to perform with consistency which is expected at a mammoth club like Barca and hence, management has decided to completely change the face of Barca defence this summer.
Meanwhile, Luiz, 27, has struggled to find a regular place this season following the return of Mourinho as John Terry and Gary Cahill the preferred centre-back partnership. French champions Paris Saint Germain are also reported as the suitors for the services of the Brazilian and the player himself has a preference for Blaugrana.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reported to have planned a mini overhaul of his squad in coming transfer window. The Special One has openly admitted this many times that he is not happy with his current strike force and naturally Mouai??i??s first preference is to sign a world class striker.
Atletico Madridai??i??s Diego Costa is the most likely candidate to arrive at Stamford Bridge in coming transfer window.
