Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned off Luke Shawai??i??s suitors, Manchester United and Chelsea FC, insisting the left back will remain at the club.
Luke Shaw has been in the news throughout this season, due to his good performances on the field for Southampton and rumour mills linking him with both Manchester United and Chelsea. The 18-year-old, who made his England debut earlier this season, has made tremendous progress since breaking into the first team last year. Both Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly keen on making a move for him in the summer, but Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that the left back will stay at the club.
“That’s the first time I’ve heard about that [Reports of Shaw preferring a move to Manchester United], it’s news to me. At the end of the day Luke Shaw is a player that belongs to Southampton, and it will be the club that makes the decision as to what happens with his future.
“Of course there will be interest for him, but so far right now he’s a player at Southampton and it looks as though it will continue that way.
“There are a lot of players who are under interest at Southampton, but they are all very happy at the football club, and most of them are under long-term contracts.
“They understand the situation of what it means to be a professional player in the Premier League. There’s nothing really we have to speak about on that front. If there is any decision to be made, it is for the owners, not for me.” ai??i?? Pochettino said in an interview.
Manchester United are expected spend big in this transfer market and strengthening the defence will be David Moyesai??i?? prime concern. United will need a new left back in the summer with reports claiming that Patrice Evra will depart from Old Trafford in the summer, while Alexander Buttner is yet to show any consistency to grab a regular starting place. But the asking price of Southampton might be a problem and United might be forced to pay as much as A?30 million of for the Englishman. Moyes has also marked out cheaper alternatives Valencia left back Juan Bernat, but Shaw remains his priority in the summer.
United are also likely to face competition from Chelsea in the race for Shawai??i??s signature. The Southampton defender is a childhood fan of the London club and Jose Mourinho is expected to sign a left back in the summer with Ashley Cole facing an exit from Stamford Bridge. Cesar Azpilicueta has been played as a left back this season, but he will be moved to the right side of the defence if a left back does arrive in the summer.
Recent report suggest that Manchester United are leading the race ahead of Chelsea as David Moyes is likely to guarantee his regular first team action, something which might not arrive with such regularity at Stamford Bridge with Branislav Ivanovic in the side and Azpilicueta making himself un-droppable.
