Manchester City player Samir Nasri has claimed that Chelsea and Manchester United will prove to be the real test for his side this season, and Liverpool will not be able to make another tittle challenge.
Liverpool lost out to City last season with two points, but surprised everyone by actually competing for the Premier League title in the first place. The Reds started out last season fighting for the fourth spot and were the third favorites for that spot too. A fantastic run of games in 2014 saw the coming agonizingly close to winning the whole thing.
However, Nasri believes that it won’t be the same for the Merseyside club this time because they don’t have the services of Luis Suarez and also have another competition to focus on- Champions League.
‘Liverpool will find it tougher because they have lost Luis Suarez and they will be playing Champions League football so it will be different for them,’ he told the City match-day programme.
‘Last season they only had the Premier League to go for in the final months and it gave them a real advantage because their players were going into games fresher at a vital stage of the campaign.’
City finished 22 points above their arch-rivals and neighbors Manchester United last season, and presently hold a four point lead over them, but Nasri thinks they can do the damage this time. He also views Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea team, which is unbeaten in the league right now, to fight with City for the first spot’I think our two main rivals will be Chelsea and Manchester United.
‘Chelsea have made some good signings and Cesc Fabregas will be the guy to replace Frank Lampard. He is a great player, I know that because I was with him at Arsenal.Ai??Chelsea had a weakness up front last year but have signed Diego Costa. They will be really dangerous,’ said Nasri
‘United have a new coach, have strengthened as well and don’t have any European competition — so I expect them to come back stronger, too.’
Nasri added that his ex team Arsenal can also prove to be a threat this time after they brought in a quality player like Alexis Sanchez.
‘But Arsenal could be in there, too, and bringing in players like Alexis Sanchez will make them stronger.’
