Liverpool have been linked with numerous goalkeepers in the past few weeks and it now seems that Stoke’s number 2 is also rumored to being chased by the Reds. Simon Mignolet has been extremely poor this season and was dropped against both Manchester United and Arsenal in the league. His replacement is currently Brad Jones who has proved over the last three fixtures, that he is not good enough to be in the first team regularly.

Butland is an exciting prospect and has been one for quite a while now. He made his senior debut for Birmingham City in 2010 and in 2013, signed a four and a half year deal with Stoke City. But the 21 year oldAi??has only managed three appearances for the Potters and has since had loan spells at Barnsley and Leeds United.Ai??The goalkeeper has spent part of this season on loan at Championship side Derby. At international level, he has represented England at all age-group levels and was first-choice goalkeeper for the Great Britain team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He became the youngest goalkeeper to play for the senior England team when he made his debut in August 2012 but has only one cap since.

Jack Butland is an exciting prospect and is a very talented player to have in your squad. However, he is not what Liverpool need at the moment. The Reds are in dire need for someone commanding and imposing to be between the sticks. someone who can also contribute by organizing the defence and giving the leadership that has missed at the back since Jamie Carragher retired. Keeping that in mind, Jack Butland doesn’t seem like the ideal alternative. Petr Cech would be an outstanding signing for Liverpool if they can pull it off. However, it seems unlikely that Jose Mourinho will let the Czech player leave the club, especially for a rival, even though Cech is the backup to Courtois this season. Liverpool should, however, try their best to land the Chelsea player. Asmir Begovic is the other goalkeeper they should target. But it would take a lot for Stoke to part with their number one, mid-season.
