Chelsea Confirm Agreement With AC Milan For Torres; Remy Targeted As Replacement

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is all set to join AC Milan and Mourinho is targeting Loic Remy from QPR as his replacement.

The 30 year old striker has struggled badly in three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge. He has only scored 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances after he made a record-breaking A?50million move from Liverpool in January 2011. Meanwhile, he scored 65 goals in 102 league appearances during his time with the Reds.Ai??Torres’s British record transfer fee stood until Angel Di Maria moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United for A?59.7m this week.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had commented several times during this transfer window that he wanted to keep Fernando Torres in the Chelsea squad this season, hailing his work-ethic and professionalism time and again. The Chelsea boss also wanted to ensure he had three striking options in his squad.

“What we have clear is that we need three strikers to face the season,” Mourinho said earlier on Friday.

“He (Torres) is one of them.Ai??I like him as a person. I like him as a player. If he wants to leave, it is something he didn’t say to me. At the moment, he is our player, nothing more than that.Ai??If he wants to leave, in the case he wants to, it’s because he wants to try a new life, a new club, probably a new league.

“So if he wants to leave, which until this moment I have not one single word about, I believe that is to try to be happier than he was in the last couple of years.Ai??This is a very human club in the way the club approaches this kind of situation. If he comes to us in these last couple of days, any possibility would be analysed by us as a club and the best decision for him.”

The loan deal between Chelsea and Milan was confirmed on Friday night and is dependent on personal terms being agreed and the medical being passed. AC Milan confirmed an agreement via Twitter

Milan want to replace Mario Balotelli, who left for Liverpool, through the ex-Liverpool forward. Torres would hope that a change in environement and style of play can help his career again. El Nino would be carrying hopes of making it to the Euro 2016 squad and having a good season at his new club would be the first step of ensuring that.

Meanwhile Chelsea are believed to be targeting Loic Remy as the replacement for Torres. The Blues have reportedly already opened talks with QPR. Mourinho was initially targeting AS Romaai??i??s Mattia Destro, but that deal doesn’t look like it would happen and hence the London club is looking at Remy as the player they want to bring in to add to the striking options, and replace the departing Torres. The Spaniard’sAi??departure leaves Mourinho with just Diego Costa and Didier Drogba as recognised senior strikers.

Remy was all set to join Liverpool earlier in the window but that moved collapsed, allegedly due to medical reasons. Harry Redknapp has expressed his desire at keeping the striker, but has also admitted earlier that the Frenchman could leave the club for European football.

Reliable sports journalist Fabrizio Romanzo has claimed that a deal between the two sides has been agreed and Remy will have his medical with Chelsea in the coming days.
