Schalke Chairman Clemens Tonnies has insisted that Arsenal FC transfer target Julian Draxler doesnai??i??t want to join Bayern Munich.
There seems to be no end in sight for this everlasting Julian Draxler transfer saga. The German internationalai??i??s future has been under constant speculation since the start of this season as Arsenal have expressed interest in signing him. After missing out on the Schalke winger in the summer, Arsene Wenger made an attempt to lure him to the Emirates in the January transfer window as well, but a deal failed to materialize.
There seems to be a mystery as to why Arsenal failed to land him in the winter transfer window despite their efforts. Initially it was reported that Schalke were unwilling to sell him before summer, whereas later reports in English media suggested that it was Arsene Wenger who pulled the plug of this deal as his valuation of Draxler didnai??i??t match that of Schalke.
Schalkeai??i??s director of sports Horst Heldt did reveal that the club received a bid for Julian Draxler, which they turned down. Even Julian Draxler said in an interview to Sky that he could have left in this window if not Schalke refusing to let him go. Later fresh reports from Germany insisted that Bayern Munich stopped the Draxler deal from materializing as they want to buy him in the summer. Arsenal are expected to make another move for Draxler next summer and Schalke will be unable to retain him if the Gunners meet the release clause in his contract. But Bayern Munichai??i??s interest in him sounded perilous for the Gunners. Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies has however claimed, reassuringly for Arsenal, that Draxler doesnai??i??t want to join Bayern Munich. Tonnies has however hoped to convince Draxler to stay with Schalke beyond the end of this season, although he accepts that it would be unrealistic to think about keeping someone as talented as him for too long at the club.
“It would do Draxler good to spend another year or two with us.
“But we know we’re not going to be able to keep a super-talented player like Julian at Schalke forever.
“If another club comes in for him, then we cannot block them. That would be unfair.
“I don’t think he wants to join Bayern Munich, though.” ai??i?? Tonnies told the press in an interview.
This transfer saga has almost turned into a soap opera now with twist and turns every week. More clubs are expected to join the battle to sign this talented German international in the summer, along with Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
