Premier League side Arsenal are considering a loan move for Atletico MadridAi??winger Alessio Cerci in January,according to the Spanish newspaper AS.
The 27-year-old joined last season’s Spanish champions from Torino only this summer, after he impressed greatly for the Serie A side last season. But he has failed to show the same magic with Atletico like he did last season, and his first team chances have subsequently been limited.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone has preferred to play fellow summer signingsAi??Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic in the attack, instead of Cerci, and naturally, the Italian international has mostly been receded to the bench.
It is believed that the player is unhappy with regards to the playing time he is getting atAi??the CalderA?n.Ai??Cerci has already admitted that he is not too happy to be warming the bench and his comments have hinted to a potential move in January to a place where he will regularly feature. The player has only made five league appearances for the Spanish giants.
“We’ll see what happens with Atletico from now until January, I didn’t go to Madrid to not play. I was always relied uponAi??in Italy, I don’t have the patience toAi??sit and stayAi??on the bench,”Ai??Cerci said in an interview with Rai.
“I gave my all, I think [the Albania] was my best game with Italy. Conte gave meAi??confidenceAi??and I think I returned the favour. I was very eager to play and the heart, sometimes, counts for more than the schemes.”
Arsenal have not lit the English Premier League alight with their form and performances, and manager Wenger is reported to be looking at reinforcements in the winter. The Gunners have been struggling in the league as they sit sixth on theAi??tableAi??with 26 points from 15 games. Cerci is a player Wenger thinks, can add quality to his side, and help in getting regular wins. Manchester United have also been linked with the player.
Simeone remains unconcerned with reports linking Cerci to Arsenal and Manchester United.
“To me it does not hurt to talk. It’s not a thought to the coach. No train individually and collectively train. I read theAi??papers andAi??see that Manchester United, Arsenal and Inter all want Cerci. That must mean that Atletico are one hell of a team,”Ai??Simeone told AS.
It is not certain whether the Gunners’ are looking at a loan move for the Italian, or are interested in getting him permanently. Simeone would surely prefer a loan move for the player, as Cerci can go and get regular playing time in a highly competitive league and get his edge back.
