Real Sociedad president Jokin Apperibay has confirmed Arsenalai??i??s interest in re-signing Carlos Vela, although the Mexican international is keen to stay in Spain.
Real Sociedad president has insisted that Carlos Vela is keen to extend his stay at the Spanish club, despite Arsenalai??i??s desire to activate the buy-back clause.
The 25-year-old is coming off the back of a successful season at San Sebastian. Vela scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists in 35 starts in the league as Real Sociedad finished seventh in the points table. The Mexican prodigy has seemingly come of age last season and is finally fulfilling the potential Arsenal saw in him, when they signed him in 2005.
Vela spend six years at the London club, but failed to establish himself in the first team squad. The forward was loaned out on several occasions, and despite producing moments of brilliance, he never showed any consistency back then. The Gunners eventually sold him to Real Sociedad, after a successful loan spell at the Spanish club and he has found his feet at the Anoeta. Arsenal however did insert a buy-back clause of A?3.3m in his contract while negotiating his transfer and the Gunners were reportedly considering a bid to activate that clause following Velaai??i??s exploits last season.
Real Sociedad has now revealed Arsenalai??i??s interest in Vela and president Jokin Apperibay has insisted that the London club are determined to bring him back to the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger is expected to spend heavily in this transfer market and reports suggest that the Frenchman is looking to add a wide forward to the squad following Theo Walcottai??i??s fitness concerns. Carlos Vela is versatile enough to play on either wing and can also play in a central role upfront. His versatility and cheap price makes him an attractive option for Arsenal, but it Velaai??i??s desire to stay in Spain might be the biggest stumbling block.
