Mourinho Opens Chelsea Gates for Wayne Rooney
The ai???Happy Oneai??i?? was quizzed about the possibility of signing Wayne Rooney in his first press conference upon returning to Chelsea and immediately, in his own quirky way, Mourinho claimed that Rooney doesnai??i??t need to move for money; instead, he must find a club where he will get the happiness and drive to improve as a player.
Jose described that Rooney has qualities much like himself and that he fancies a character like the Manchester United No.10.
“I like him,” Mourinho said. “He is at a fantastic age. He has maturity, big experience and is still young. It’s up to him and what he wants, what makes him happy.”
THT Verdict: Ever since David Moyes took over, one of the names that consistently crops up on the exodus list is that of Wayne Rooneyai??i??s. Although till date we havenai??i??t seen any club show a concrete interest in the player, Mourinhoai??i??s words might just have begun a run of mind games to prize the Evertonian away from Chelseaai??i??s rivals. Rooney was hidden behind shadows for pretty much the entire duration of the 2012/13 season, fueling the possibility of him leaving Old Trafford. With Chelsea suffering striker woes of their own, a move for Rooney will definitely be on the cards. The question then is, would he want to stay in England upon leaving Manchester?
Fabregas Insists His Future is at Barcelona
The past few weeks have seen the media link Cesc Fabregas with a return to the Premier League. Whatai??i??s even more fascinating is that the papers are linking him strongly with a move to Manchester United more than Arsenal. The player has now finally come out and said that he intends to stay at the club unless heai??i??s told that he can leave.
Fabregas found it increasingly difficult to cement a starting place in his favoured central midfield position last season, mainly due to the presence of Xavi and Busquets. It is now reported that the midfielder will hold talks with Tito Vilanova about his plans for next season and where the Spanish international can fit in.
THT Verdict: Maybe. Fabregas fought hard for his move to Barcelona and considering his emotional attachment with the club, it will be difficult to prize him away after having spent just two seasons there. But the important thing to remember here is that the arrival of Neymar will make it difficult for Vilanova to draw up a formation where Fabregas can fit seamlessly. The presence of Xavi and Busquets has already hampered his chances last season. There is no reason to believe they wonai??i??t make life difficult for their fellow La Masia graduate in the coming year. But having said so, we believe that better offers will come in from outside of England once clubs learn of Fabregasai??i?? availability. Fabregas surely wouldnai??i??t want to turn his back on Arsenal upon his return to England, would he?
Galatasaray Will Listen for Sneijder Offers
New reports emerging from Turkey state that Galatasaray are open to the sale of Wesley Sneijder provided the Turkish outfitai??i??s evaluation of the player is met. Unal Aysal, Galatasaray president, has set an asking price of A?12.75 million for the Netherlands international. Although no firm interest has so far been recorded, it is rumoured that Tottenham and neighbouring rivals Chelsea would fancy a move for the former Oranje captain, especially with the asking price being well within their reach for a player like Sneijder.
THT Verdict: Sneijder is 29 years old, still a few years left in him. After his success in Italy and a good season with Galatasaray (helped them win the Turkish Super Lig and reach the quarter-finals of last seasonai??i??s Champions League), there is just about enough room for one last big move to a club where he can finish his career. While Mourinhoai??i??s return to Chelsea would mean the Blues will be linked with a move for Sneijder, the Blues arenai??i??t really facing a dearth of midfielders at this point.
