The Armenian international, who plays mostly as an attacking midfielder, is a footballer of gifted technic and vision. For a midfielder, he also has a wonderful goal scoring record; in fact he has already scored 20 goals in 26 appearances (in all competition) this season for the Ukrainian club.
Mkhitaryan has even drawn comparison with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard earlier this season from former Chelsea player Pat Nevin. The former Scottish international was impressed with the way the Shakhtar youngster started the 2012-13 season in red hot goal scoring form.
“Eleven goals in eight league matches already is fantastic, but when you add that he is a midfielder, it is phenomenal. You may not have heard of him yet, even if all the scouts at the top European clubs have, but you soon will. The 24-year-old, who future at Shakhtar was up for speculation, has now publicly stated his desire to leave the club at the end of this season. The midfielder has stated that it is now time for him to move to a different team.
“For every player, to play for the strongest clubs in the world is a dream, and the main goal.
“I will do everything possible to move this summer to a different team.” – said Mkhitaryan.
Shakhtar have already sold one of the star player, Willian, to Anzhi during the winter transfer window and now look set to lose their creative lynch-pin, Mkhitaryan in the summer. But given the talent and reputation of the player, one can expect a bidding war between top clubs for the Armenian midfielder, which will in turn raise the asking price.
