Chelsea FC And Manchester City Eyeing A Move For PSG Midfielder

Chelsea FC and Manchester City are interested in signing PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

The French international has become a key member of the PSG squad since he joined the club in 2011 from Saint-Etienne. Blaise Matuidi earned a lot of praise for his role in the title winning campaign last season as PSG lifted the Ligue 1 trophy for the first time since 1994. He has continued his good form this season and provided some wonderful displays in the league so far. But Matuidiai??i??s current contract expires in 2014 and reports suggest that talks for a contract extension have encountered a few stumbling blocks. PSG are keen to retain him and have offered him a new contract until 2018, which would also see him earn a significant rise on his current wages, but there are unconfirmed reports of conflicts between his former agent Jean-Pierre Bernes and his present agent Mino Raiola, which is blocking negotiations.

Matuidi, who will be free to hold talks with other clubs in January if PSG fail to negotiate a contract with him by then, has insisted that he is happy at the club, but has hinted that he is keeping his options open regarding his future.

“I am really at ease at PSG.

“My first wish would be to stay. But you can wish for something and sometimes it doesn’t happen.

“The club has a special place in my heart, but anything can happen in a career.” ai??i?? The French international told the press recently.

Reports from England suggest that Manchester City and Chelsea are closely monitoring his situation at the French club and are lining up a move for him in January. Jose Mourinho is yet to find the right combination at the center midfield as Frank Lampard heads towards the fag end of his career while Mikel has failed to perform consistently. Ramires has been his best central midfielder so far, but Mourinho is reportedly keen on Matuidi to partner him in the pivot. The Frenchman would be a fine addition to the squad and would provide Chelsea with lot of stability in the center of the park.

But Chelsea will face competition from Manchester City, who are also keen on the 26-year-old midfielder. Manchester City have had a disappointing start to their league campaign and will look to strengthen their squad in January in order to add life to their title challenge. Although PSG wonai??i??t be in a hurry to sell Matuidi, if they fail to tie him down with a long-term contract, they could be left with no other choice.
