The 35 year old said he is happy to be part of Jose Mourinho’s plans this season.
The Chelsea legend looked set to move to the MLS after the 2012/13 season with then Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez prepared to let Lampard leave at the end of the season. However, Lampardai??i??s Chelsea career was extended by a year when Jose Mourinho started his second stint with the London club, and Lampard reckons this was the right decision for him.
Lampard, who is an integral part of the current Chelsea line up even at the age of 35, believes Mourinho showed faith in his abilities and the England man has repaid it this season by turning out key performances for Chelsea. Lampard is also a key part of the England squad that recently qualified for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and thinks staying in the Premier League instead of following players in the twilight of their careers like David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill and Robbie Keane to the United States, was the right move nearing the end of his footballing career.
Lampard said:
“I certainly think I made the right decision to stay at ChelseFranka and in the Premier League.
“It wasn’t a big secret I wanted to stay anyway, it was just a case of trying to play my best and make sure that happened.
“Fortunately enough it did and I haven’t looked back. I’m very pleased to be working under the manager again because he’s been brilliant for me and my career. I’ll never forget that.
“If I hadn’t have been at Chelsea then Champions League nights wouldn’t have been possible and possibly England, either.
“Roy Hodgson was very good with me because he knew things were up in the air.
“Ideally he wanted me in the Premier League. He wasn’t forceful but it’s not rocket science – if you’re playing in the best league in the world then you obviously give yourself the best chance of being picked.ai???
Lampard also insisted that Mourinhoai??i??s faith in his abilities was important in his decision to stay on at Stamford Bridge adding that he was not too worried about the future as his contract runs out at the end of the season:
“Jose has always said about me trusting him and him trusting me and we have a decent relationship. I’m just trying to stay fit and contribute.”
“I’ve got no idea when we might talk about my contract.
“I’m taking each game, each month and each season as it comes these days, as you get older, so no rush at all.”
