TheHardTackle Rewind: Episode 1

FA Cup is the oldest football competition in the world. Over the decades, FA Cup final has seen some truly classic encounters. However, only one player has had the distinction of having an FA Cup final named after him – Sir Stanley
Matthews. Matthews, arguably the greatest English player of all times, was 38 years old when he lined up for Blackpool against Bolton Wanderers in 1953 Cup final. Bolton went 3-1 up within 55 minutes. After that the Stanley Matthews show began. He rolled back the years and weaved past the Bolton defense to set up a hattrick for Stan Mortensen. Blackpool defied all odds by grabbing a late 4-3 win. That match came to be known as the “Matthews Final“. 58 years later, Blackpool has once again drubbed Bolton with the same scoreline (though with less drama) on an FA Cup final day.
