Arsenal will reportedly have the chance to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, a deadline-day target for Chelsea and Liverpool.
According to a report by Football Insider, intermediaries have offered Arsenal the chance to sign Douglas Luiz in a deadline-day move. The Brazilian midfielder is a target for Chelsea and Liverpool, with Aston Villa demanding £30 million to part ways with him today.
Douglas Luiz arrived in Europe when he joined Manchester City from Vasco da Gama half a decade ago. But the 24-year-old never made an appearance for the Premier League heavyweights and joined Aston Villa in July 2019 after spending two years on loan at Girona.
The Brazilian international has been a revelation for Aston Villa in the last three years and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Luiz has turned out over 100 times for the Midlands club, but he faces an uncertain future at Villa Park amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool. And intermediaries have now offered Arsenal the chance to sign him.
Arsenal can do with a player of Douglas Luiz’s abilities amid concerns surrounding the fitness of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny. Mikel Arteta currently has only two midfielders at his disposal, and Arsenal can do with a late midfield signing, especially with Luiz available for only £30 million, after failing to sign Leandro Paredes.
As for Chelsea, the Blues need to bring in a midfielder in the wake of an injury crisis at Stamford Bridge. N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are sidelined with fitness issues, while Mateo Kovacic has only just returned to action. With Jorginho on the wrong side of 30, signing Luiz from Aston Villa will be a step in the right direction for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will uncharacteristically look to sign a player late in a transfer window after Jurgen Klopp conceded that he needs a new midfielder at his disposal. The Reds have already failed to land Konrad Laimer, but they remain in the market for a solid addition. Luiz is thus a viable target for Liverpool.
The Brazilian midfielder’s £30 million price tag makes him an attractive target for Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. With Atletico Madrid also in the equation, Luiz might have played his last game for Aston Villa when they took on Arsenal this week.
