Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a late move for 34-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Tim Krul is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a possible late move in the ongoing transfer window. The Red Devils view the 34-year-old Norwich City goalkeeper as an alternative for Yann Sommer as their search for a shot-stopper continues.
Tim Krul has spent most of his professional career in England since graduating from the Newcastle United academy. The Dutch international, who made his debut for the Netherlands in 2011, was particularly excellent for the Magpies between 2010 and 2015. And Krul has found a second wind in his career since joining Norwich City four years ago.
During this period, the Canaries have pendulated between the Premier League and EFL Championship. But the 34-year-old has been a consistent performer and a shining light in the frustrating top-flight campaigns, turning out over 150 times thus far for Norwich. And Krul’s performances have captured the attention of Manchester United.
The Red Devils want to sign a goalkeeper before the summer transfer window shuts down after allowing Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal. And with Erik ten Hag not particularly fond of Tom Heaton, Manchester United will look to bring in a shot-stopper to compete with David de Gea.
Yann Sommer has recently emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, who submitted an enquiry to ask for his availability this summer. Manchester United also scouted the veteran shot-stopper in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin this past weekend.
But signing Sommer might be a tall order as the Swiss goalkeeper wants to feature prominently at the club level in the first half of the season to stand a chance of featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Krul has thus emerged as an alternative for Sommer, with the 34-year-old not in the position that Sommer finds himself in on the international stage.
The Dutch goalkeeper also has extensive Premier League experience and might not take long to settle down at Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also showing interest in Everton stopper Asmir Begovic, suggesting they want a player in the twilight of his career, perhaps with the view of re-integrating Henderson next season. But it will be interesting to see if a move for Krul materialises.
