According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Thomas Meunier has handed Barcelona a boost in his pursuit as he wants to join the Blaugrana in the ongoing transfer window. The Borussia Dortmund defender is also a target for Manchester United this summer.
Thomas Meunier has had an intriguing career thus far as he has shown bags of potential without ever seeming to nail down his spot at either Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund. But the 30-year-old has still featured fairly regularly for the Bundesliga giants since arriving from PSG two years ago.
The Belgian international has made 62 appearances for Borussia Dortmund while chipping in with three goals and seven assists. And Meunier’s exploits at the Signal Iduna Park have captured the attention of several European bigwigs, with Barcelona and Manchester United being his prospective suitors.
The interest from Barcelona stemmed from the inability to sign Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, as the Spaniard signed a new contract with the west London club. With Dani Alves no longer at Camp Nou and Xavi Hernandez deeming Sergino Dest surplus to requirements, Barcelona’s need to sign a right-back has accentuated.
Meunier has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. But recent reports have claimed that Borussia Dortmund will look to keep him at Signal Iduna Park beyond the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Barcelona will also need to fend off stiff competition from Manchester United to sign the 30-year-old.

But Manchester United will have an uphill task in the race to sign Meunier as he is keen on joining Barcelona. The Belgian international has already confirmed that Barcelona pursued him in the January transfer window. But it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can usurp the Blaugrana to land him this summer.
