Chelsea plotting 2023 move for Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea are reportedly plotting a sensational move for Christopher Nkunku for 2023, when Todd Boehly will resume building the squad next summer.

According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have already set their sights on Christopher Nkunku for a move in the 2023 summer transfer window, as Todd Boehly will continue building the squad next year. The Blues still have unfinished business in the current window, but planning has begun for their squad’s future.

Chelsea have taken the summer transfer window by storm, becoming the highest spenders in this window in the top five leagues. The west London outfit will make further signings before the transfer deadline, which could take their spending north of €300 million.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to arrive from Barcelona, while they are on the trails of Wesley Fofana and possibly sign a new midfielder before the deadline. While Chelsea have relentlessly strengthened the current squad, they already have plans for the future.

For instance, the signing of Aubameyang may be considered a stop-gap solution, as Thomas Tuchel lacks a central striker in the team. Considering the long-term planning, Chelsea want Christopher Nkunku, and they are preparing to sign the Frenchman next summer.

RB Leipzig evaded interest in the 24-year-old French international this summer after Nkunku came out of a sensational season. Nkunku scored 35 goals and assisted 20 times in all competitions, capping off a terrific campaign from a personal level.

Despite tremendous interest from clubs in England and Spain, Nkunku decided to sign a new contract with Leipzig. As part of the agreement, the 24-year-old French international has a buyout clause worth €60 million, meaning any club can pay the amount in full and get him out of the club.

Considering the spending patterns in the Premier League, €60 million could be a great price even next summer. Chelsea, in particular, are looking at Nkunku and preparing to make a move in 2023. They face competition from Real Madrid, who remain keen on signing Nkunku next year.

Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, remains keen on strengthening the squad further, and next summer, there could be another splurge on quality players. The Chelsea owner has a long-term vision and will use resources to build the best team capable of challenging for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

Nkunku will have a big decision next summer, as many clubs will be vying for his signature. The 24-year-old attacker has already begun the new campaign in style, scoring twice in as many Bundesliga games. There will also be a World Cup between now and the end of the season, where the Frenchman could feature if he keeps up his current form.
