Manchester United will reportedly provide stiff competition to Chelsea in the race to sign Barcelona attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
According to a report by The Sun, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Barcelona attacker is also a target for Chelsea, but he does not want to depart from Camp Nou this summer.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has resurrected a career that was spiralling out of control at Arsenal. The 33-year-old rediscovered his form to guide Barcelona to a second-place finish in La Liga, with the player and the club both ending a difficult 2021/22 season strongly.
The Gabonese attacker was so influential for Barcelona that he finished the campaign as their joint top scorer, despite playing only 23 games. But Aubameyang faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou following Robert Lewandowski’s arrival this summer. And such a situation has compelled Chelsea and Manchester United to consider swooping Aubameyang away from Barcelona.
The interest from Chelsea stems from the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, with the duo joining their respective former clubs, Inter Milan (on loan) and RB Leipzig, this summer. Their exits have left Thomas Tuchel without a recognised striker at his disposal, with the Chelsea boss utilising Kai Havertz through the middle instead.
That is not a healthy situation for what will be a long and gruelling season, thus compelling Chelsea to identify Aubameyang as a top target. But the west Londoners face stiff competition from Premier League rival Manchester United in the race to sign the Barcelona attacker this summer.
Recent reports claimed that intermediaries had offered Aubameyang to Manchester United and Chelsea. And the interest from Manchester United is understandable as Cristiano Ronaldo wants to depart from Old Trafford. With Edinson Cavani already leaving the Red Devils, the need to sign a new striker has accentuated.

But while Barcelona might be open to offloading the former Arsenal captain, Xavi Hernandez does not want to lose him this summer. In addition, Aubameyang does not wish to leave Barcelona either, so Manchester United and Chelsea will have an uphill task to convince all parties to complete a summer move.
