Conor Gallagher uninterested in leaving Chelsea amid Everton, West Ham United interest

Conor Gallagher wants to remain at Stamford Bridge and become a Chelsea regular, but the final decision on his future will be in Thomas Tuchel’s hands.

According to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea and remains uninterested in joining Everton or West Ham United. The English midfield prospect expects to become an integral part of the Blues’ squad this season, although a decision on his future is in Thomas Tuchel’s hands.

Conor Gallagher is not wrong in expecting bigger things this season with Chelsea. Having spent the last three seasons away from the west London club on loan to Charlton, West Bromwich Albion, and Crystal Palace, the player has been instilled with a new belief.

For Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira, Gallagher was a force. A regular under the French manager, the Chelsea midfielder made 34 Premier League appearances, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. When the season ended, there were whispers about the Eagles looking to make his move permanent, but they have since moved on from the chase.

Gallagher wants to become a regular at Chelsea, a club where he has come up through the youth system. He wants to become a significant player like Mason Mount and Reece James, but the road ahead is challenging for the 22-year-old midfield prospect.

After playing regularly in pre-season, Gallagher was on the bench against Everton on the opening weekend. His Chelsea future is still uncertain, with interest growing from other clubs in the midfielder. Everton have been keen on signing the 22-year-old but have not found a way to advance in talks.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly rejected an approach from West Ham United recently, with a final decision on the midfielder still pending. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Gallagher is uninterested in moving to West Ham or Everton; the midfielder would like to remain at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

However, a final decision will be in Thomas Tuchel’s hands, who has plenty of first-team midfielders suiting his system. Stylistically, Gallagher fits the setup of the German tactician, who likes to field two holding midfielders and sometimes deploy a box-to-box player.

For now, Chelsea already have Mateo Kovacic operating as a box-to-box midfielder, while N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are firm choices for the holding positions. On paper, there are no guarantees Gallagher will play regularly this season, but he remains an integral part of the Chelsea setup.

Also, Chelsea’s links with Frenkie de Jong will only affect Gallagher, who could then make a firm decision over staying at Stamford Bridge. There is still time in the window, and anything could happen between now and the end of the month.

Gallagher became an England international last season owing to his performances for Crystal Palace. He would like to continue being part of Gareth Southgate’s setup but will have to feature regularly at the club level to stand a chance to make the England squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
