Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with Udinese to sign Manchester City target Destiny Udogie in a deal worth €25 million.
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham have verbally agreed a deal with Serie A outfit Udinese for the signing of teenage defender Destiny Udogie, who is also a target for Manchester City.
Destiny Udogie joined Udinese last summer, arriving on a loan deal from boyhood club Hellas Verona. The teenage defender enjoyed a solid breakthrough campaign with Le Zebrette, finishing with a return of five goals and four assists from 35 Serie A matches. The 19-year-old has been signed permanently by Udinese, but they are ready to cash in on him immediately, with the youngster attracting plenty of interest.
Indeed, the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Lazio have all been monitoring Udogie, while Premier League clubs Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also showed an interest in signing the Italian. However, it seems like the Lilywhites are now poised to sign Udogie from Udinese in the ongoing transfer window.
Tottenham have been making the best use of director Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte’s knowledge of the Italian market and have repeatedly raided Serie A for players over the past year. Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ivan Perisic have all arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from the Italian top flight, and Udogie could be the next in line.
Tottenham have Ryan Sessegnon and Perisic as options for the left-sided wing-back role, while Ben Davies can also fill in if needed. But, considering that Perisic is entering the twilight of his career at the highest level, signing a young prospect like Udogie could make sense for the north London club to put a succession plan in place.
Manchester City are also keen on Udogie and are believed to have made an enquiry for the 19-year-old. Having sold Oleksandr Zinchenko and missed out on Marc Cucurella, the Cityzens could have been eyeing the Udinese prospect as an option to strengthen their left-back department. But, they are set to lose out to Tottenham in the race for the teenager.
Tottenham have been in talks with Udinese for the transfer of Udogie for some time now. And, as per the latest update, they have reached a verbal agreement with Udinese over a deal worth €25 million, including add-ons. The report adds that Spurs are likely to let the youngster spend the upcoming campaign on loan with the Serie A outfit for him to continue his development.
If true, it promises to be an exciting acquisition for Tottenham, given the promise and potential that Udogie has shown so far in his burgeoning career. With Djed Spence on the right flank and Udogie on the left, Spurs could have a top wing-back pairing for years to come.
