Everton are reportedly closing in on the capture of former midfielder Idrissa Gueye, with talks at an advanced stage with PSG over a permanent transfer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are inching closer to welcoming back Idrissa Gueye to Goodison Park as they are negotiating final details with Paris Saint-Germain over a transfer.
Gueye joined Everton in the summer of 2016 from fellow Premier League club Aston Villa and spent three years with the Toffees. The 32-year-old was one of the Toffees’ most reliable performers during that time and earned himself a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, after 107 appearances for Everton.
Since moving to Paris, the Senegalese international has been a regular in the side, making 110 appearances in which he has seven goals and six assists. However, with his contract expiring next year and new management in place at the club, Gueye has been put up for sale on the market, with Everton emerging as the frontrunners to land the veteran midfielder.
Everton are in the need of new faces in the midfield department after bidding goodbye to Fabian Delph this summer, following the expiry of his contract. Question marks remain over the futures of Allan and Andre Gomes as well, and Frank Lampard must reinforce his roster before letting players depart.

A move for Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour is already in the works. And at the same time, Everton now seem set to sign Gueye on a permanent transfer from PSG. The Toffees have been in talks with the French champions over the past week to get the deal done, with the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations winner also keen on a return to Goodison Park.
Now, as per the update from Fabrizio Romano, Gueye is on the verge of securing a comeback to Everton. The 32-year-old will add some much-needed experience and quality to this Everton side, while his presence could also help the Toffees get tighter at the back after they leaked goals for fun last season.
The report states that Everton and PSG are working out the final details of the deal, which could be done over this week. It will be interesting to see if the Toffees can bring Gueye in before their opening Premier League fixture of the season against Chelsea on Saturday.
