West Ham United are ready to take advantage of Youri Tielemans’ situation as Arsenal seem to be backing away from the chase.
According to the print edition of the Mirror, as relayed by HITC, West Ham United have entered the race for Youri Tielemans, with the midfielder available for a transfer. Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move but the recent lack of interest has opened the door for other suitors to explore a move for the wantaway Belgian midfielder.
As he enters the final year of his contract, Youri Tielemans has consistently hinted at taking up a new challenge, putting his Leicester City future in significant doubt. The preference would have been a club in England playing in the Champions League, and there were heavy links to Arsenal when they were favourites in the top four race.
Despite the Gunners losing out on Champions League qualification, they remained interested and pondered making an offer. Arsenal were believed to been in pole position for Tielemans throughout the summer.
However, the quickfire signing of Fabio Vieira initially cast doubt over their pursuit of Tielemans. Additionally, the Gunners swiftly switched their attention to attacking talents, which probably hinted that Arsenal may have cooled their interest in the Leicester City star.
However, reports have consistently suggested Arsenal are firmly in the chase for Tielemans. The Gunners could come back to the table late in the window in hope of snapping up the former AS Monaco ace in a cut-price deal. However, their delay in swiftly signing the midfielder has opened the door for suitors to attempt an approach.
West Ham United are reportedly considering launching an enquiry for the midfielder, with David Moyes keen on a profile similar to the Belgian. The Hammers struggled with only Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek as their first-choice central players, and bringing in the Leicester star would make plenty of sense.
While Arsenal hold the ‘traditional big club’ tag, West Ham are a team on the rise and can offer European football to attract the 25-year-old. However, they will be playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League, while the Gunners will feature in the Europa League next season.
Leicester City will be open to accepting reasonable offers in this window, or they might lose him on a free transfer in 2023. West Ham United have emerged as contenders for Tielemans, although Arsenal could blow them out of the water if they decide on making a late offer.
