West Ham United have made an offer to Juventus for 23-year-old left-back Luca Pellegrini as David Moyes chases a competitor for Aaron Cresswell.
According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham United have already made an offer for Luca Pellegrini, who could be available at the right price. David Moyes is keen to add a new full-back as competition to Aaron Cresswell and strengthen the position’s depth.
West Ham United’s transfer business has seen plenty of activity, with the club seemingly getting closer to their preferred targets. David Moyes wants to strengthen several positions ahead of the 2022/23 season and make sure the mistakes of the previous windows are not repeated.
A striker partner for Michail Antonio remains at the top of his agenda, while the need for new defenders is glaringly obvious. However, West Ham have solved one problem with the £30 million signing of Nayef Aguerd, as Moyes focuses on the other priority defensive target.
A new left-back is earmarked as a potential arrival at the London Stadium in the window. Moyes had to rely on Arthur Masuaku in Aaron Cresswell’s absence for some parts of last season, but the 28-year-old was not an ideal alternative.
Cresswell firmly remains the first-choice left-back, but he also played in a back three whenever required. Hence Moyes wants a solid backup to the English defender, albeit someone who could be deployed as a wing-back if the formation needs it.
Luca Pellegrini’s name was mentioned a few times in the last weeks, and there is genuine interest in the Juventus defender. The 23-year-old Italian international is not exactly a regular starter, but he has shown he can be an able deputy. There is considerable scope for developing his game further, but Turin may not be the place for him.
Other Premier League clubs such as Fulham and Everton are also in the equation. However, the Hammers have emerged as front-runners after reportedly putting plenty of effort into the chase. West Ham have made the initial move by reportedly lodging an offer for the left-back.
According to the report, West Ham have tabled an offer of around €10 million. So there is optimism regarding a move. But it is unclear whether Juventus would accept such a sum, considering they paid around €22 million to sign the 23-year-old Italian international from AS Roma back in 2019.
However, a lack of regular game time has lowered his value over the last couple of seasons, as Pellegrini has failed to reach the heights expected. Nevertheless, the following is good news for West Ham, who are somewhat confident of sealing a move in the coming days.
