Feyenoord have agreed personal terms with Chelsea whizkid Ian Maatsen over a potential move this summer.
According to Voetbal International, Feyenoord have moved one step closer to the capture of Ian Maatsen. The Chelsea youngster is one of many left-backs the Dutch giants are targeting this summer as they look to replace Tyrell Malacia, who is set to be offloaded in the summer.
The report indicates Maatsen has agree personal terms with Feyenoord. The youngster is expected to depart Stamford Bridge in the summer after a successful loan spell at Coventry City. He is open to returning to his homeland Netherlands to play for Feyenoord, although the deal is far from complete.
A left-back by trade, Maatsen is coming on the back of a successful season that saw him become an ever-present figure in Coventry City’s backline. With 39 league appearances, he played a key role out wide, helping his club attain a mid-table finish in the Championship.
Maatsen, though, is now prepared to play top-flight football following a couple of excellent loan spells at Coventry City and Charlton Athletic. He was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund last month, but the German giants have since turned their attention towards Manchester United target David Raum.
It paves the way for Feyenoord to make an attempt to sign the youngster this summer. The 20-year-old could be an excellent replacement for Malacia, adding more balance and athleticism to the Feyenoord backline. The move could make sense for the player as well, as the Dutch outfit can offer him the ideal platform to showcase his talents in the Eredivisie.
To that end, Maatsen has agreed personal terms with Feyenoord. However, the report suggests that the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over a potential transfer. Although the Dutch outfit is working on the deal, it remains unclear whether Chelsea will be open to sanctioning the sale of the youngster, amid uncertainty over the future of Marcos Alonso.
The former Fiorentina starlet has reportedly agreed a three-year deal with Barcelona and his exit could effectively leave Thomas Tuchel with Ben Chilwell as the only option at left-back. Hence, it won’t be surprising to see Chelsea holding on to Maatsen, at least until they bring in a new face.
