Manchester City tracking Kieran Tierney

Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney over a possible move this summer.

According to reports in The Scotsman, Kieran Tierney is being tracked by some of the best European clubs, including Premier League champions Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is eager to add reinforcements to the left-back department and the Arsenal defender has now emerged as an option.

On top of Manchester City’s interest, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly keeping tabs on the 25-year-old, who moved to the Emirates in the summer of 2019 from Celtic. Tierney quickly grew into a crucial component in Arsenal’s first-team setup, but injuries have often played spoilsport.

In three seasons, Tierney has managed just 86 appearances for the north London club, scoring four times and assisting 12 goals in them. But despite the limited opportunities, the left-back has impressed and has been one of Arsenal’s best players when on the pitch.

With four years left on his contract, he is still very much a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans going forward. Tierney’s absence was felt in the latter half of the recently-concluded season as Arsenal could not take advantage of a favourable position in the top-four race to finish fifth in the league.

Manchester City’s search for a left-back is well-documented, with Pep Guardiola deploying Joao Cancelo, primarily a right-back, and Oleksandr Zinchencko in the position. The Ukrainian international is reportedly looking for greener pastures in search of more game time, with Arsenal coincidentally one of his suitors, leaving Manchester City looking for reinforcements.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella seems to be on top of their list, and Manchester City are confident of getting the deal through. The player also seems keen on a move to the Etihad, but the Premier League champions are keeping their options open should the move fall off at the last minute. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the Brighton full-back.

It is highly unlikely that Arsenal will sell Kieran Tierney this summer, especially when Mikel Arteta is finally getting his message through and moulding a young team to challenge for a top-four spot consistently, with Tierney very much a part of that rebuild. The Gunners will hope that the Scottish international remains fit throughout the season. As for Manchester City, they will need to seek alternatives from the market.
