Manchester City attacker Gabriel Jesus is reportedly pushing for a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
According to Goal Brazil, Arsenal have returned with their offer for Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, who is now pushing for a move to the Emirates. The player’s entourage are urging Manchester City to accept Arsenal’s proposal for the Brazilian.
The Gunners’ interest in Jesus has been well documented, with Arsenal prioritising signing a number nine this summer. The north London club lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in the January transfer window after choosing to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
Alexandre Lacazette’s contract with the club is set to run down this month as well, and the Frenchman will officially rejoin his former club Lyon in a Bosman move. It leaves Arsenal with just Eddie Nketiah, who recently signed a new long-term deal with the club, as their only recognised striker.
Jesus has not quite managed to cement a starting spot at Manchester City after joining the club from Palmeiras in 2017. He has since made 236 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 95 times and assisted 46 goals in them. The Brazilian international was also used in the right-wing by Pep Guardiola this past season, as he finished the term with 13 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances.
Jesus only has a year left on his contract with Manchester City, and following the arrival of Erling Haaland, his game time is only going to suffer more. The 25-year-old is thus pushing for a move to Arsenal, where he is expected to lead the attack, with Nketiah playing as his backup.
But despite Arsenal’s long-standing interest, a deal is yet to materialise. There were reports that Jesus was prioritising a move to a club with UEFA Champions League football, which Arsenal cannot offer. Juventus and Atletico Madrid were interested as well. But they could not match Arsenal’s offer and were thus ruled out.
Jesus is now eager to a move to the Emirates and is pushing Manchester City to sanction the move. The Brazilian international would like to spend some part of the pre-season with Arsenal before taking the field in the Premier League in August.
