Manchester United have an important decision to make with their goalkeeping situation, with Daniel Bachmann linked with a move.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have a key decision regarding their second-choice goalkeeper, with Watford’s Daniel Bachmann the latest player linked. The Red Devils are evaluating multiple scenarios to solve the issue as Karl Darlow, and Tom Heaton are other options being considered to replace Dean Henderson.
Dean Henderson endured a terrible campaign being Manchester United’s second-choice keeper. David De Gea’s rejuvenated form and the club’s inability to progress in domestic cup competitions meant the England star could feature only thrice for the senior side.
Henderson has grown frustrated with his lack of game-time, as De Gea will likely be the club’s undisputed No.1 next season, and is considering leaving Manchester United in the summer, with Newcastle United showing tremendous interest. The Magpies are confident of reaching an agreement with Manchester United for their academy graduate.
Manchester United are demanding £40 million for Henderson, and while Newcastle could agree on a deal, they are trying their best to reduce the asking price. The Magpies have offered Karl Darlow in exchange to sweeten the approach and give the Red Devils an experienced replacement.
Manchester United are considering the idea of signing Darlow, although they have two more options to evaluate before making a concrete decision. Manchester United may only sanction Henderson’s departure after finding a new No. 2.
The easiest option for them is to promote Tom Heaton as De Gea’s deputy for next season. He is experienced and will readily step up if required. The next idea is to sign someone younger than Heaton and Darlow, which leads to links with Daniel Bachmann.
The Watford man could consider sticking with the Hertfordshire club despite their relegation and establish himself as their new No. 1. Whereas, joining Manchester United would once again mean that he will deputise for the main keeper, something he did last season.
Bachmann played 12 times in the Premier League in 2021/22, conceding 28 goals. And even though signing for Manchester United would represent a chance to step up into a big club, at 27, he would want to play regularly.
With Henderson seemingly set on securing an exit, Manchester United to make a decision with regard to their understudy for De Gea. And Bachmann is one of the options the Red Devils are mulling over, with Darlow and Heaton also being looked at. It remains to be seen which way the Red Devils decide to go come summer.
