Arsenal, Tottenham rival Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips

Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly ready to rival Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips, who may leave Leeds United in the summer.

According to 90 min, there is serious interest in Kalvin Phillips as Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Tottenham are prepared to battle Manchester City for the Leeds United star. The West Yorkshire outfit has a big decision to make ahead of the summer, as they hope to cling to their star midfielder.

Leeds United managed to scrap through the relegation battle and ensure their survival in the Premier League on the last day of the season. While remaining in the top flight was a joyous moment for their fans, several key players could soon leave to dampen the mood.

Star names like Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips could depart the club in the summer, with the latter attracting the interest of many big clubs in the Premier League. Manchester City are considered the front-runner for his signature, as Pep Guardiola seeks a solid option in the middle to strengthen his squad for the next campaign.

The Manchester City manager’s main objective is to sign Phillips as a replacement for Fernandinho, who will leave the club imminently. The Leeds midfielder has the qualities that can elevate Guardiola’s options, with the English international considered perfect for Manchester City.

Phillips is not paid as per his current market value, which may prompt the player to consider his options. While he remains serious about a long-term career with the English national side, he would be thinking of a big move somewhere to cement his place in Gareth Southgate’s side.

After being tipped to join Manchester United, his allegiance to Leeds United may have forced him to snub any possible move to Old Trafford. However, there is considerable interest from Liverpool, West Ham United and a few overseas clubs.

Now, Arsenal and Tottenham have also joined the chase for the English international as the north Londoners explore signing the Leeds star. The Gunners are keen on signing a defensive midfielder and would be happy to accommodate Phillips in their ranks.

Leeds United’s demands of £60 million could be a factor that could deter Arsenal’s interest. That price tag might also force Tottenham to look away, even as Antonio Conte considered making a move. That certainly leaves Manchester City as the front-runner, and the Premier League champions do have the finances to fund such a move.

As things stand, Leeds United are at a crossroads over renewing Phillips’s future. The English midfielder may also consider moving away from the club to upgrade his career, although his departure would severely hurt and weaken the Whites ahead of next season.
