Arsenal could consider a Bosman move for Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry in the summer of 2023.
According to Christian Falk, Arsenal have been dealt with a massive blow in their pursuit of Serge Gnabry. The Premier League giants were keen on bringing the attacker back to Emirates in the summer, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League has made the operation unattainable.
Arsenal, though, do have an opportunity to make a move for Gnabry at the end of next season. The explosive attacker will become a free agent at the time, with the player himself open to the idea of returning north London, after years of success at Bayern Munich.
Gnabry had been a part of the Arsenal setup for five years, initially joining the academy in 2011. But he never really managed to make an impact in the first team, making only 18 competitive appearances before joining Werder Bremen on a permanent deal in the summer of 2016.
The return to Bundesliga turned out to be a boon for Gnabry. The winger scored 11 goals in his first season at Werder and earned a move to Bayern Munich. He was loaned out to Hoffenheim during the 2017/18 campaign, where he was involved in a total of 17 league goals.
Gnabry eventually became a part of the Bayern Munich senior side in 2018. During his four years at the club, he has attained astonishing numbers, racking up 64 goals and 40 assists in 171 competitive appearances. He has won almost everything as well, including the UEFA Champions League, the DFB Pokal and four Bundesliga titles.
But Gnabry’s adventure in Bavaria could soon come to an end as he feels undervalued in Munich. Among all the first-choice Bayern attackers, he is paid the least despite registering better numbers season after season. And with the Bavarians still apprehensive about handing him a lucrative deal, he could consider leaving the club in the near future.
A return to Emirates could certainly be an interesting move for Gnabry. The German international shares a strong emotional connection with the club while his style of play could be ideally suited to the Premier League.
For a free transfer in 2023, the former Werder Bremen star could be nothing less than a bargain for a club like Arsenal. However, it is difficult to imagine Bayern allowing the winger to leave the club for free and will likely cash in on him in the upcoming summer if they fail to tie him down to a new contract.
