Chelsea are reportedly open to listening offers for N’Golo Kante, who is on the radars of Real Madrid and Manchester United this summer.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea could reluctantly consider selling midfield mainstay N’Golo Kante in the summer owing to his contract situation, with Real Madrid and Manchester United interested.
The 31-year-old signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2016, immediately after having helped Leicester City to a shock Premier League title triumph. Kante has since been a permanent fixture in the centre of the park for the Blues, playing a huge role in the success that they have achieved during the period.
Kante has won a Premier League title, an FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League trophies with Chelsea, along with the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. The midfielder has also lifted the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League trophies with the French national team, making him one of the most successful footballers of the modern era.
However, Kante is entering the final year of his contract with Chelsea this summer, and talks over a renewal are yet to take place. And if an agreement over an extension is not arrived at, the west London giants could open the doors for offers for the French international, who has been bogged down by injuries this term.
This development will come as a boost to Manchester United and Real Madrid, who are reportedly interested in signing Kante. Manchester United are set for a new era under their new manager Erik ten Hag with reports claiming that the 52-year-old Dutchman has identified Kante as one of his priority transfer targets ahead of the upcoming season.
Manchester United do not have a quality operator in the defensive midfield region, and with Nemanja Matic departing, they will lose the only option they had in the position. So, a new player in the holding role is on the agenda for the Red Devils, with ten Hag reportedly favouring a move for Kante.
At the same time, Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in the 31-year-old Chelsea star. The Merengues do not have a proper alternative for Casemiro in the No. 6 role, and have earmarked that area as an important area of focus heading into the summer, with Kante emerging as a viable target.
Apart from Manchester United and Real Madrid, PSG are also interested in the French international heading into the summer. However, it must be noted that with links to AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni getting stronger, it might be unlikely that Real Madrid pursue Kante as a priority.
Nevertheless, Chelsea are now open to offers for Kante as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract with the club. Thomas Tuchel rates the midfielder very highly and would ideally like to see the 31-year-old star continue at Stamford Bridge. But if there is no extension, a summer exit could become a serious possibility.
