Arsenal more likely to sign Richarlison than Victor Osimhen

Arsenal are likelier to sign Richarlison over the more expensive Victor Osimhen as Mikel Arteta ponders bringing in a striker to the Emirates.

According to Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Arsenal could sign Richarlison instead of Victor Osimhen, as the Nigerian striker may be out of their price range. Mikel Arteta is in the market for a top-class striker, and the arrival of a new face seems imminent.

Arsenal have been in the news for their relentless search for a striker. They have made a few advanced moves to sign a forward, but nothing is being finalised yet.

Mikel Arteta desperately needs a notable name to lead the line for Arsenal as he ponders the shape of his attacking unit for next season. While Alexandre Lacazette is likely to leave, the Gunners remain hopeful of retaining Eddie Nketiah. In addition, Arsenal want at least one new striker in the summer to be assured of their striking options.

Arsenal are edging closer to signing Gabriel Jesus, and Arteta is already looking at an additional option, especially if Nketiah also departs. The Gunners have initiated contacts with Victor Osimhen, with the Napoli forward reportedly picking the north Londoners as his preferred choice over Manchester United.

If Arsenal beat Newcastle United and Everton to clinch UEFA Champions League football for next season, the chances of signing Osimhen will increase dramatically. However, the biggest issue in pursuing the Nigerian would be to agree with the Serie A giants’ asking price.

Napoli had invested heavily to sign the striker from Lille and are demanding around £94 million to let him leave. The price tag is beyond Arsenal’s range, and hence it is suggested the Gunners may look elsewhere for an alternative.

The alternative is supposedly Richarlison, who has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time. There were rumours of the Brazilian being offered to Arsenal, but there was nothing concrete in that story.

Recent reports suggest Richarlison is eager to leave Everton for a new challenge as he wishes to play European football. The Toffees will not play continental football next season and are considering approaches of around £50 million. That certainly falls under Arsenal’s budget, making the Everton forward a likely option.

Dean Jones has suggested that Richarlison is a likelier option for Arsenal instead of signing Osimhen in the summer. Financially, the move may make sense, but Richarlison could be the alternative to a wide forward Arteta has been searching for. The Brazilian’s versatility comes in handy, and his Premier League experience could put him in the driver’s seat ahead of other targets such as Cody Gakpo.
